New chair charts course for growth
The new leader of the Tees Valley Business Board has set out a vision focused on collaboration, influence and long-term economic growth across the region.
Matthew Ord has been formally appointed as permanent chair of the board following a period in the role on an interim basis since July, marking a new chapter for the organisation as it sharpens its focus on representing business voices across Teesside and beyond.
The four-year appointment, confirmed by the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) cabinet, is intended to provide stability and continuity as the board strengthens its role in shaping the region’s economic direction.
Matthew brings more than 20 years of experience in international trade to the position and is a company ambassador for LV Logistics, a global logistics business with strong roots in Teesside.
He is widely recognised across the region for his extensive business network and his ability to connect organisations, stakeholders and decision-makers.
Under his leadership, the board is expected to place renewed emphasis on partnership working, practical impact and ensuring business insight directly informs regional plans.
The focus will include supporting enterprise, helping attract inward investment and contributing to the creation of skilled jobs across the Tees Valley.
Matthew said: “The Tees Valley Business Board exists to ensure the voice of business is central to shaping the Combined Authority’s plans for the region.
“Our role is to guide and advise TVCA so its strategies reflect the real needs and ambitions of local enterprises.
“I’m known for my straight talking and collaborative approach and that will remain.
“Under my leadership, we’re taking a fresh, inclusive approach and we want business leaders to join us.
“In the months ahead, there will be opportunities to become part of the board for those who share our values of integrity, openness, and a commitment to working together for Tees Valley’s success.”
The Tees Valley Business Board plays a central role in ensuring the views of businesses are embedded in regional decision-making, advising the Combined Authority on priorities linked to growth, skills and investment.
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen added: “I’m delighted to welcome Matthew as the permanent chair of the Tees Valley Business Board.
“Matthew’s extensive knowledge of the Teesside business landscape, his proven ability to work collaboratively, and his genuine passion for our region make him an outstanding choice for this role.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with him and the wider TVCA team to drive the investment, create the jobs and unlock the opportunities that the people of Teesside, Hartlepool and Darlington deserve.”
Further details on opportunities for businesses to engage with, or join, the Business Board are expected to be announced in the coming months.
