British Engines recruits 29 apprentices
North East-based engineering group British Engines has welcomed 29 new apprentices across its regional businesses as it continues to invest in skills development and future growth.
The new intake, aged between 16 and 23, will complete a four-year apprenticeship programme across roles including machining, maintenance, design, purchasing and procurement, following strong competition for places.
The apprentices will be based across several British Engines companies, including BEL Engineering in Newcastle, CMP Products in Cramlington, Rotary Power in South Shields, and Michell Bearings.
The cohort also includes apprentices transferring from Union Electric Steel in Gateshead, enabling them to continue their training following the site’s closure.
Alongside the new intake, British Engines is supporting a further 16 existing employees to undertake apprenticeships as part of their professional development.
The appointments reinforce the group’s long-standing commitment to addressing skills shortages and developing engineering talent across the North East.
Andrew Myers, who oversees the design, delivery and reporting of apprenticeship programmes across the group’s businesses, said: “We’re really proud of our reputation as one of the region’s leading apprenticeship employers and believe this record intake reflects our continued investment in the future of engineering talent.
“Our new cohort represents a diverse group of talented individuals who are eager to learn, innovate and contribute to the success of our eight businesses across the group.
“We’ve worked hard to elevate the programme so that it not only delivers hands-on experience but also gives apprentices access to new technologies, digital learning tools and structured development pathways.”
