Education work adds up for architectural firm
An architect has bolstered its project book with education work.
Howarth Litchfield supported the £1.6 million expansion of Sunderland’s Christ’s College.
Bosses say the work has doubled the education provider’s dining and kitchen areas, and created a space for “multi-purpose” use.
A predominantly glass pavilion has also been added to the building.
The project adds to support provided to Christ’s College operator Emmanuel Schools Foundation by Durham-based Howarth Litchfield, having previously worked on The King’s Academy, in Coulby Newham, near Middlesbrough.
Jonathan Yates, Howarth Litchfield managing director and project architect for the scheme, said: “We developed a large multi-use space that resolves dining challenges while providing a flexible venue for parents’ evenings, performances and presentations.”
Mrs Normanton, school principal, added: “The completed dining hall at Christ’s College has greatly enhanced the facilities available to students and staff, and will benefit many generations to come.”
Howarth Litchfield worked alongside firms including Bishop Auckland-based building contractor T Manners & Sons, Steel River Consultants, BGP and DTA Consulting Engineers on the scheme.
