mfg Solicitors appoints family partner

Midlands-based law firm mfg Solicitors has strengthened its family law offering with the appointment of Richard Port MBE as a partner and head of family at its Birmingham office.

Richard joins the firm as a highly experienced family law specialist, advising clients on a wide range of matters including matrimonial finance, complex child arrangements, wealth protection, and pre and post-nuptial agreements. 

He has particular expertise in supporting victims of domestic abuse and managing complex family proceedings.

Richard said: “The strength and development of mfg Solicitors over recent years is clear, so joining Katherine and the team was an easy decision.

“With my experience supporting victims of domestic abuse, I hope to bring a distinct perspective to the team and play my part in further enhancing the firm’s regional and national reputation.”

Richard’s appointment follows the firm’s family department being promoted to tier one status in the 2025 edition of The Legal 500, reflecting its growing national reputation.

He was awarded an MBE in 2022 for services to victims of domestic abuse and was also named solicitor of the year at the Birmingham Law Society Awards. 

Richard is also a former president of Birmingham Law Society.
