Barks Wine uncorks bigger future
A fast-growing Sheffield wine business is raising a glass to growth with a move into larger premises.
Barks Wine Shop is relocating within Leah’s Yard less than a year after opening, moving across the courtyard into a significantly larger unit as demand continues to grow.
The shop was launched in April last year by owner and sommelier Charles Cornelius, marking his first step into business ownership.
Opening in the smallest unit at Leah’s Yard, Barks has quickly established itself as a popular destination for wine lovers, known for its carefully chosen range and personal, knowledgeable service.
Charles says the move will see the business quadruple in size, giving it more space to build on its early momentum.
The move will also free up space for new businesses to join the city centre destination, with interest encouraged from complementary independent brands.
Charles said: “Moving across the courtyard is a small step for me but a giant leap for the shop, it’s going to mean more wine, more events and more fun!”
Tom Wolfenden and James O'Hara, directors of Leah’s Yard, added: “Enabling independent retailers to establish themselves and thrive in Sheffield city centre is a key ambition of Leah’s Yard.
“Seeing Barks outgrow its first premises so quickly is testament to Charles’s hard work and a clear example of what can be achieved when businesses are given the right conditions to succeed.”
