Poundstretcher to open new store in Durham
A County Durham retail park is set to welcome a new discount store as part of wider expansion plans by a national retailer.
Poundstretcher is opening a new store at Dragonville Retail Park in Durham after taking over the former Bargain Buys unit.
The store is due to open its doors on Friday, January 16, strengthening the retailer’s presence in the North East alongside existing locations in Bishop Auckland, Hexham, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Stanley.
Bosses say the Dragonville site will offer a wide range of branded and non-branded household, food and pet products, as the business continues to grow following its acquisition by Fortress Investment Group in 2024.
Andy Atkinson, chief executive of Poundstretcher, said: “Consumers are still finding things difficult and that’s why we’ve committed to bring Poundstretcher closer to even more customers and ensure they too can benefit from our great quality branded and non-branded products at market leading prices.”
The Durham opening forms part of a broader UK rollout, with new stores launched in recent weeks across the Midlands and London, creating more than 50 jobs.
