Karbon backs LGBTQ+ housing pledge

A northern housing provider is strengthening its commitment to equality by taking steps to make homes and services more inclusive for LGBTQ+ residents.

Newcastle-headquartered Karbon Homes has signed the HouseProud LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge, delivered by Stonewall Housing, reinforcing its focus on creating welcoming and inclusive communities.

The pledge is open to social housing providers and is designed to address issues highlighted by the experiences of LGBTQ+ people living in social housing.

By signing up, Karbon has committed to promoting LGBTQ+ visibility, supporting events with colleagues and customers, and embedding inclusion into staff induction and training. 

The move builds on the organisation’s existing LGBTQ+ inclusion hub and enables Karbon to work towards national accreditation as part of the HouseProud scheme.

“In the short time that Karbon Homes has been Pledge Signatories, we've already hosted a brilliant joint Pride in Housing Event in collaboration with Positive about Inclusion, highlighting ways that North East based housing providers can imbed LGBTQ+ inclusion into their work. 

“We're excited to continue supporting Karbon Homes on its LGBTQ+ journey.”
