Getting to know... Chloë Clover
We know you as the co-founder of Wander Films and a member of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum, but who is the person behind the title? Tell us a little about what makes you tick…
Titles are just, erm, titles, really. I’m curious, restless, and probably happiest when I’m pushing my limits, growing our company or climbing mountains. I like figuring people out, asking awkward questions, and having fun. I get a proper rush out of seeing ideas come to life and teams grow in confidence. Strip everything back, and I’m still a Northern kid who likes adventure, storytelling, and having a laugh. What's the point if you're not having fun, right?!
Did you always want to work in your industry?
Honestly, yes and no... as soon as I knew I could, absolutely, I was single-minded, but when I was growing up, I didn't know this was possible. I think that's why I wanted to keep us here, to show you can do it.
What’s the best bit about your job? And the worst?
The people, seeing their dreams come to light, too. To be on this mega journey with a group of incredible people is really special. It's fun, you know, we come up with ideas, we make content and films, and design cool things. We're blessed.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
It's hard to choose one thing I'm most proud of... Starting this in the first place after dropping out of school at 15, or making the Forbes 30 under 30 list, or making our first TV show. So many great things happened for us, and are still to come!
How do you relax outside of work?
Oooo, I love the outdoors. Lou and I (my wife and co-founder) climb and hike. But I also LOVE content. I love watching shows and films and YouTube. We also have three cats, soooo they take up some time too 😄
What makes the North East such a great place to live and work?
It's home. When Lou and I started, we were on the other side of the world, travelling in Australia. We were told we couldn't make anything of ourselves in the North East, that there just wasn't opportunity here. I think that's why we were so determined to set up here, to prove you can (I don't like being told I can't do something). There's an energy and a grit in the north that you don't find anywhere else. It's a special place, and if we can help show people that, then that's what we'll do.
Tell us something about you we didn’t know…
Haha, well, actually, Lou and I didn't meet because of a passion for content and films, we met because of a love of music. When I was younger, I was obsessed with beats. I'd tap on everything and couldn't sit still, so I was encouraged to learn drums, and I frickin' loved it. Since then, I joined bands and played gigs all over. One day, a friend of mine told me a really cool band needed a new drummer, so I auditioned. It was Lou's band, and that week we opened for the Human League.
