73-home Newcastle scheme approved
A housing scheme in the west of Newcastle has secured planning support, clearing the way for development to progress.
Banks Property has received approval from Newcastle City Council’s planning committee for plans to build up to 73 homes at West Brunton, within the Newcastle Great Park area.
The 4.5-hectare site is allocated as a Neighbourhood Growth Area in the city’s Local Plan.
The scheme will include a mix of house types, with 15 per cent designated as affordable housing.
It will also deliver at least a ten per cent biodiversity net gain alongside environmental enhancements.
Community contributions will support local education, nature reserves and parks, while a new play area, footpath and cyclepath link to Brunton Lane, and a sustainable drainage system will form part of the development.
Jamilah Hassan, community relations manager at the Banks Group, said: “Having had a recommendation for approval for our West Brunton plans, we’re very pleased that the members of Newcastle City Council’s planning committee have seen fit to give support their them.
“This is a logical location for the type of high-quality development we’ll now be bringing forward, which is close to both the amenities within Newcastle Great Park’s district centre and a very well-connected public transport system.
“There is a clear need to boost the supply of quality homes in North East England and across the UK as a whole, both to ensure people have the housing options they need in the places they want to live and to support the wider UK economy’s growth ambitions.
“Our West Brunton development will contribute towards meeting both these goals and we're excited to now be able to get on with realising the potential that this site offers.”
