Business park submits ‘exciting’ expansion plan

A Northumberland business park is set to expand under new proposals aimed at driving jobs and investment near Newcastle International Airport.

The Wilson family, owners of Prestwick Business Park, have submitted a first-phase planning application to Northumberland County Council to extend the long-established site.

Working with Rural Solutions, the proposal seeks consent for a new 680sq metre office building as part of a wider 2.5-hectare allocation confirmed in the Northumberland Local Plan.

James Ellis, planning director at Rural Solutions, said: “The exciting proposals from the Wilson family respond to the positive approach taken by Northumberland County Council in allocating land for the expansion of the existing business park.

“The sustainable designs will create space for new jobs and businesses in close proximity to Newcastle Airport, Ponteland and Prestwick village.

“We look forward to working with the Council as the application moves forward to a decision.”

Established in 2005 through the conversion of former farm buildings, the park is fully occupied and home to a range of small and medium-sized businesses.

The new building will reflect the character of the existing development, incorporating local stone, timber louvres, photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps, alongside additional landscaping and parking.

Subject to approval, construction could begin soon, with further phases planned to complete the wider employment site.

The Wilson family added: “Having developed Prestwick Business Park, we have been delighted by its success in attracting businesses of all kinds and helping them to flourish and grow whilst based here.

“With demand for our offices continuing and our current units fully let, we are pleased that we can now bring forward proposals to expand the business park and add to our occupier community.”
