Lantern lights way for consultancy’s office move
A North East environmental consultancy has expanded its operations with a move to a larger Sunderland headquarters.
Lantern Building Consultancy has managed Franks Portlock’s relocation to a new 5720sq ft headquarters at Hylton Park, marking a ten-year commitment to the region.
The £220,000 project saw Washington-based AMH Workspace appointed to deliver a full fit-out, creating a modern, multi-functional workspace with meeting rooms, training areas, breakout spaces and specialist laboratory facilities.
Lantern oversaw the two-month programme, including installation of HVAC systems, data infrastructure, electrical works and interior finishes, while also acting as cost consultant during lease negotiations with UK Land Estates.
The new facility, which is twice the size of the firm’s previous base, will support Franks Portlock’s continued expansion.
Phil Franks, director at Franks Portlock, said: “The larger workplace with its upgraded facilities will allow us to look forward to our next decade of growth, with the need for more staff inevitable as we take on new contracts.
“Having grown pretty consistently over the last few years in both number of staff and turnover, we simply did not have enough space to accommodate everyone comfortably at our previous premises.”
Simon Greensmith, director at AMH Workspace, which was also involved in fitting out Franks Portlock’s previous head office in 2018, added: “It was a privilege to be invited back to help shape the next chapter for Franks Portlock.
“Working with the team at Lantern throughout the project, we’ve created a space that not only looks great but supports the team as they grow and innovate.”
Newcastle-based Lantern, founded in 2021 by Martin Smith and Alex Carter and based at the Generator Studios in Newcastle, continues to grow its portfolio across the commercial property sector, supporting occupiers with strategic development and fit-out projects.
Martin added: “It has been a privilege to work with Franks Portlock to bring its vision to life.
“From early cost planning and negotiations through to delivery on site, our focus has been on providing clear, joined up advice and ensuring every detail aligned with the company’s long-term goals.”
“Working collaboratively with AMH Workspace, we’re proud to have helped create a space for Franks Portlock that supports their team’s continued success.”
