Cool operator promoted to MD

A familiar face on the UK’s catering scene has been promoted to his most senior role yet.

Barrie Webster is one of the most trusted figures in the hospitality sector and has helped to transform bar and catering specialist Clear Cool during the last seven years.

The experienced operator joined the firm in 2019 and played a key role in developing the industry-leading Glacier ice machine — a permanent fixture behind the bar at pubs and restaurants across the country.

Now Barrie has been appointed Managing Director of Clear Cool ahead of a further period of growth planned by parent firm The Rudd Group.

“Barrie has been a driving force behind the business for a number of years now and he’s a huge asset to Clear Cool,” said Nick Rudd, Managing Director, The Rudd Group.

“He’s brought in major customers including Starbucks and Newcastle United and his approach to his work is on a different level.

“Barrie brings a wealth of knowledge from across the catering industry and genuinely wants customers to get the best out of their equipment — it’s not just about sales

“Early in his career Barrie was told ‘exceptional service is the foundation of long-term success’ and he’s living proof!

“He’s a huge asset to Clear Cool and his promotion to Managing Director is the next natural step for him and for our business.”

Barrie, based at The Rudd Group’s Haydock depot, boasts more than 30 years’ experience in hospitality and was a highly respected chef before making a bold career move.

“My journey began as a City & Guilds-qualified chef before I transitioned into commercial and sales leadership roles,” he explained.

“I’ve managed to build up extensive experience during that time and I bring deep market knowledge to the role at Clear Cool.

“Nick and the team showed immense faith in me from day one and I’ve been able to develop various aspects of my career during my time at Clear Cool.

“I’m looking forward to taking this new leadership role and running with it.”

The Rudd Group supports pubs, bars, restaurants and other venues with high-quality equipment that streamlines operations and boosts revenue potential.

From gaming machines and media systems — provided by Innstay — to Clear Cool’s innovative back-of-bar solutions, the Tyneside-based group continues to set new standards in the hospitality industry.

“We are determined to retain our best assets and Barrie falls into that category,” added Nick.

“He’s a real team player who, despite leading Clear Cool, supports his colleagues across the group.

“Barrie travels far and wide to attend our popular darts and pool events and he’s loved by colleagues and customers alike.”
