Newcastle Airport gears up for Easter rush
A North East airport is preparing for a surge in holiday travel as passenger numbers take off ahead of the Easter break.
Newcastle Airport is expecting more than 70,000 passengers over the four-day Easter weekend, marking its busiest on record and an increase of almost 20 per cent on last year.
More than 450 flights are scheduled, with additional services to popular destinations including Alicante, Malaga, Faro, Rome and Malta.
The growth follows the launch of easyJet’s new base, introducing nine routes, alongside Ryanair adding a third aircraft and new connections.
Norwegian is also returning with flights to Copenhagen for a second summer season.
Passengers are also increasingly using the airport’s hub connections to access long-haul destinations such as New York, Bangkok and Sydney.
With more than 80 direct routes and over 300 onward connections, Newcastle Airport continues to expand its offering as demand for both short and long-haul travel rises.
Nick Jones, chief executive at Newcastle Airport, said: “There’s always a fantastic buzz at Newcastle Airport during the Easter weekend, and this year will be extra special as we get ready for our busiest on record with more than 70,000 passengers passing through our doors.
“Whether people are heading off for a well‑earned break in the sun, a European city break, visiting friends and family or a long‑haul adventure, this milestone reflects the growing demand for the choice, convenience and global connectivity we offer.
“It’s also a time when many visitors come to the North East to enjoy everything our incredible region has to offer, bringing significant economic benefits to the area.”
