New padel courts set for Steel City Stadium
A South Yorkshire sports and leisure destination is set to expand its offering with the arrival of one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.
Steel City Stadium at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park will welcome three new padel tennis courts after planning approval was secured by regeneration specialist SGI.
Construction is expected to begin in May, with the courts opening in September, adding to the stadium’s existing facilities including a professional pitch, workspace and café.
The development aims to boost participation by providing accessible, sociable sport for people of all ages and abilities, supporting the Park’s focus on health and wellbeing.
It forms part of SGI’s wider investment into the site, where more than £10 million has already been committed to enhance infrastructure and facilities.
Scott McCabe, director at SGI, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning approval for the padel courts at Steel City Stadium.
“This is about more than just new courts – it’s about creating more opportunities for people to get active and be part of what’s happening here at the Park.
“Padel is growing rapidly across the UK and globally, and we’re excited to bring that energy into Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park as we continue to invest in the Stadium and its wider offer.”
