North East civil engineers support young patients in Newcastle hospitals
Newcastle Hospitals Charity is partnering with the Chartered Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) on a fundraising mission to support the young patients receiving care and treatment at The Great North Children’s Hospital, and their families.
As the charity’s first new corporate partnership of 2026, CECA will be raising vital funds to improve patient care and experience at the children’s hospital based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Embarking on a 12-month fundraising campaign, CECA is hoping to achieve their target of raising £10,000.
CECA North East Chair, Dan Hutton said: “For the last five years we have nominated a local charity to support and in total have raised over £34,000. Last year was a record-breaking year for CECA NE, so I am excited to see the difference the ongoing generosity of the North East civil engineering community and their commitment to supporting local causes can make to the Great North Children’s Hospital.”
The hospital cares for young patients across the North East and beyond. It has the most extensive range of services anywhere outside of London and treats over 200,000 patients every year. Support from local businesses helps to fund life-changing projects and to establish mutually beneficial partnerships with companies who see the positive potential that working with the charity can bring.
Shelley Brunsdon, corporate fundraising lead for Newcastle Hospitals Charity said: “It is a lifeline for the charity to receive corporate support as not only do companies raise funds for us but they are very effective at raising awareness among their own networks of customers, suppliers and partners, enabling us to reach a wider audience who can also potentially provide support.
“Charity of the year partnerships provide us with 12 months of stability and income generation allowing us to plan ahead and work collaboratively to make a difference in our hospitals.”
Newcastle Hospitals Charity recently launched the Every Step campaign - an initiative to support patients and families on every step of their hospital journey from admission to discharge. Corporate fundraising will be a big contributor to the effectiveness of the campaign, providing businesses with tangible benefits that charitable support can bring.
CECA Northeast represents the region’s civil engineering sector, promoting best practice, safety, training and innovation within the industry. Its annual awards evening brings together contractors, suppliers, clients and other stakeholders to celebrate achievements across the sector, while also supporting local charitable initiatives.
