Ferrybridge business hub work hits milestone
An energy site regeneration scheme has hit a major milestone.
GMI Construction Group has begun erecting the steel frame for the first unit at Mountpark Ferrybridge.
Built on a former Ferrybridge C Power Station coal yard, the 65,800sq ft base will be used by baker Warburtons as a depot.
A second phase will see a 40,000sq ft unit built, with completion expected later this year.
Developed by Mountpark, bosses say the scheme could support between 2000 and 2500 jobs when fully operational.
GMI Construction Group – which has bases in Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and Thornaby, near Stockton-on-Tees – is also overseeing road and rail improvements at the site.

Ed Weston, GMI Construction Group regional director (Yorkshire), said: “The erection of the steel frame is a highly visible sign of progress and a real milestone.
“Ferrybridge has long been synonymous with energy and industry.
“Seeing new structures take shape signals the start of a new chapter focused on advanced logistics, manufacturing and high-quality job creation.
Brett Huxley, Mountpark development director – UK and Ireland, added: “With steel now in the ground, our vision is rapidly becoming a reality.”
