Newcastle Pride launches funding drive
A community festival has launched a public fundraising campaign as organisers respond to rising event costs ahead of this summer’s celebrations.
Newcastle Pride is aiming to raise £10,000 to support the delivery of its 2026 event, which will take place across Newcastle city centre on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26.
Curious Arts, the LGBTQIA+ arts, youth and heritage charity behind the festival, says increasing operational costs, lower sponsorship income and changing national safety guidance have significantly increased the cost of staging Pride events across the UK.
The fundraising campaign is designed to help ensure this year’s festival remains safe, accessible and high quality, while continuing to support artists, freelancers and community contributors.
Organisers are encouraging individuals, community groups and businesses to get involved through donations, sponsorship, workplace fundraising and participation in the annual Pride march.
Phil Douglas, chief executive of Curious Arts, said: “Festivals and community events across the country are being cancelled due to rising costs and we are working hard to ensure Newcastle Pride can continue as planned, providing a fantastic event where everyone can feel safe to be themselves whilst showing the world this city and region is welcoming and inclusive.”
The weekend programme will include live entertainment, performances, markets and community activities alongside the city’s annual march celebrating LGBTQIA+ communities across the region.
