Property advisers Newsteer appoints head of CPO
Real estate advisory firm Newsteer, headquartered in London, has appointed James Dewey as director and head of compulsory purchase orders (CPO), strengthening its development consultancy team and specialist expertise in land assembly and compensation.
A chartered surveyor, James brings extensive experience advising both acquiring authorities and landowners on compulsory purchase, compensation and strategic land assembly matters.
His career has included roles at Drivers Jonas Deloitte, Cushman & Wakefield and Gateley Hamer, with experience spanning major regeneration and infrastructure projects including HS2, alongside commercial, residential, industrial and leisure developments.
James said: “From obtaining and implementing powers to negotiating compensation, CPOs can be complex.
“Bringing clarity to every stage of the process benefits all stakeholders enormously. I’m delighted to now be in a position to extend those benefits to Newsteer clients.”
James’ appointment comes as demand grows for specialist CPO and compensation advice amid major government reforms to the compulsory purchase system and increasing pressure to unlock housing, regeneration and infrastructure projects across the UK.
David Conboy, director and head of development consultancy at Newsteer, added: “James brings real depth and experience to our development consultancy team.
“His expertise will be a huge asset to clients working through complex land assembly and compensation challenges, helping them navigate the full CPO process.”
