Prospect Place earns further award recognition

A North East homelessness accommodation scheme has received further national recognition for its innovative approach to supported housing and community regeneration.

Prospect Place in Gateshead has been shortlisted in the Unlocking Housing Supply category at the Homeless Link Excellence Awards 2026.

Delivered through a partnership between Tyne Housing and Gateshead Council, the Pelaw development was recognised for increasing the supply of high-quality supported accommodation for people experiencing homelessness.

The scheme includes 20 homes comprising 17 supported apartments and three progression flats designed to help residents move towards independent living.

Built on a former brownfield site, the development combines sustainable design with specialist support services, creating a residential community focused on wellbeing and long-term stability.

The latest recognition follows previous shortlistings at the RICS UK Awards 2026 and other industry awards.

Tyne Housing has also secured a second shortlist at the Homeless Link Excellence Awards through its partnership with See Me North, an initiative focused on amplifying the voices and experiences of people affected by homelessness across the North East.

Steve McKinlay, chief executive of Tyne Housing, said: “To see Prospect Place recognised once again at a national level is incredibly rewarding.

“This scheme represents what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared ambition to tackle homelessness in a meaningful and lasting way.

“Prospect Place is about far more than bricks and mortar. It’s about creating opportunity, dignity and a genuine pathway towards independent living for people who need support the most.”

Winners will be announced next month.
