Restaurant Hjem extends South Causey stay
A North East restaurant is extending its residency at a popular hospitality venue after a successful first season, with a programme of guest collaborations and special dining events planned for the months ahead.
Restaurant Hjem’s founders Alex and Ally Nietosvuori have announced they will remain at South Causey Inn until the end of 2026, building on a partnership that began as a six-month residency at The Farmhouse, pictured below.
The extension comes alongside a packed summer schedule, including a one-night collaboration dinner on June 25 featuring Alex, Hairy Bikers star Si King and Propa Pies executive chef Rory Welch.
The collaboration continues a longstanding relationship between Si and the Hjem team, which began when he and the late Dave Myers visited the original Michelin-starred restaurant in Wall while filming a BBC series focused on regional food producers.
The tasting menu event will celebrate their shared passion for local produce, generous cooking and hospitality, with bookings opening today (June 2).
Alex said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming Si and Rory to The Farmhouse.
“Si has been incredibly supportive of what we do since he first visited Hjem with Dave, and we’ve stayed in touch.
“There’s a shared love of food, storytelling and hospitality there, so bringing everyone together for this evening feels special.
“It’s going to be relaxed, warm and full of brilliant food and conversation.”
Ally added: “Si is exactly the kind of person we love collaborating with because he genuinely cares about people’s experience around the table.
“We’re planning an evening which feels generous and relaxed rather than overly formal – the sort of night where guests leave having eaten really well and laughed a lot too.”
Si, who will be joined by Propa Pies executive chef Rory Welch, added: “We’re really looking forward to what’s definitely going to be a very special evening.
“I’ve always really admired what Alex and Ally are doing.
“They’re so tremendously skilled and thoughtful about every little detail and the food is completely next level.”
The Farmhouse at South Causey Inn
Since arriving at South Causey, Hjem has introduced a more relaxed version of its acclaimed dining experience, revived its Hjem Vin concept and hosted a series of special events.
Further highlights this summer include a food truck takeover, a Mediterranean-inspired barbecue, a forage-and-cook experience, a Glorious Twelfth grouse menu and a season-ending barbecue event in August.
The extended residency will provide a platform for new collaborations, guest chefs and dining experiences as the next phase of the South Causey partnership takes shape.
Ally added: “We’ve absolutely loved welcoming people to this limited-edition version of Hjem and it’s been brilliant seeing how warmly people have embraced what we’re trying to do here.
“When we first arrived, we knew we wanted this to feel creative, flexible and a bit different from the original restaurant - somewhere we could try ideas, collaborate with people we admire and create experiences which felt genuinely fun and memorable.
“The response has given us the confidence to keep building on that.
“We always knew there would come a point where the Hjem residency evolved into something broader.
“This next chapter gives us the opportunity to welcome more guest chefs, explore different ideas and create new experiences at South Causey.
“We’re really excited about where things are heading next and we’ll be sharing more details very soon.”
Susan Moiser, owner of South Causey Inn, added: “We are absolutely delighted that Hjem will be extending their stay at South Causey Inn.
“It has been a fantastic partnership, and we’re incredibly proud to continue working alongside such a talented and passionate team to offer something truly special for our guests.”
