Acquisition helps drive Edenstone's growth plans
A housebuilder is targeting significant growth after acquiring a regional developer to expand its footprint and boost housing delivery across Wales and South West England.
Magor-headquartered Edenstone Group has acquired Tai Derw Developments as part of plans to reach £100 million turnover by 2028.
The deal brings together two businesses that specialise in delivering private and affordable homes and operate with similar development models.
Martin Taylor, executive chair of Edenstone Group, said: “The acquisition of Tai Derw is an important milestone in the continued growth of Edenstone Group.
“It brings together two businesses with complementary strengths, shared values and a common approach to delivering high-quality homes.”
The acquisition expands Edenstone’s presence across Wales, extending its reach from existing developments in Llanelli into Pembrokeshire, while also supporting ambitions to grow further across South West England.
Edenstone currently employs around 120 people, with the combined business expected to create additional jobs as it expands.
Bosses say its workforce is projected to grow to between 180 and 200 employees as the company works towards its turnover target.
As part of the deal, Tai Derw will retain its name and Treforest office while operating under the Edenstone Group umbrella.
Alongside strengthening its regional presence, the acquisition is expected to enhance the group’s commercial buying power and create opportunities to share expertise and relationships across the combined business.
Martin added: “Tai Derw brings additional expertise, land opportunities and regional presence, all of which will strengthen our business and support our ambition to build a larger, more resilient organisation for the future.
“The acquisition also forms an important part of our new five-year strategy, which is focused on sustainable and profitable growth.
“Edenstone has recorded a 40 per cent increase in turnover to £63 million for the year to April 2026, up from £45 million in 2025, and generated profit before tax of £2 million.
“We see a clear opportunity to grow turnover beyond £100 million over the coming years.”
Martin Smith, managing director of Tai Derw, added: “Tai Derw has built a strong reputation for identifying and progressing strategic land opportunities, creating a robust development pipeline for the future.
“We have a number of projects due to commence over the next 12 to 24 months, including a 196-home development in Maesteg, where work will start in the coming weeks.
“We’re looking forward to taking this and other sites forward as part of Edenstone Group.”
