Later-living scheme opens near Swindon
A new later-living housing development has been unveiled near Swindon, offering a mix of affordable rental and shared ownership homes.
Anchor has officially opened Stowe Central in Wichelstowe, delivering 84 one and two-bedroom apartments designed for independent living.
The development includes 65 apartments for social rent and 19 homes available through the Older Persons Shared Ownership scheme, offering a more affordable route into home ownership.
Located on the outskirts of Swindon, Stowe Central features a range of communal facilities, including a residents' lounge, activity room, reception area and landscaped gardens.
Each apartment also benefits from a private patio or balcony.
The scheme was unveiled at an opening event attended by representatives from Homes England, McCarthy & Stone and Anchor.
Victoria Mager, director of development delivery at Anchor, said: “We are proud to celebrate the opening of Stowe Central.
“The development will create 84 affordable homes for people aged over 55.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the community take shape and creating a place where residents can enjoy later life to the fullest.”
Apartments are now available for purchase through the shared ownership programme, with prices starting from £80,750 for a 25 per cent share.
Residents can increase their ownership stake up to 75 per cent while paying reduced rent on the remaining share.
Shane Paull, chief operating officer at McCarthy & Stone, added: “Stowe Central has been designed to support independent later living, while providing access to modern shared spaces and amenities.
“We are pleased to see the development now officially open, having worked alongside Anchor to help bring these affordable homes to Wichelstowe.”
