Newcastle Van Gogh exhibition adds extra date
An immersive art exhibition has added an extra opening date in Newcastle after “incredible” ticket demand.
Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience will now open at Utilita Arena Newcastle on Saturday, July 11, a day earlier than originally planned.
Organisers announced the additional weekend date after thousands of tickets were sold ahead of the exhibition's arrival in the city.
The internationally acclaimed attraction brings more than 300 of Vincent van Gogh's artworks to life through large-scale projections, music and storytelling, creating an immersive experience that has already attracted more than seven million visitors worldwide.
Ahead of the opening, specialist production teams from Annerin Productions and Paquin Entertainment will transform part of the arena into a 10,000sq ft gallery space featuring advanced projection technology, sound systems and bespoke exhibition installations.
Anna Parry, UK business development at Annerin Productions, said: “The response from people across the North East has been incredible.
“Demand has been so strong that we’ve added an extra Saturday opening date, giving even more visitors the chance to experience
“Beyond Van Gogh during its opening weekend.
“With just one month to go, excitement is really building and we can’t wait to welcome audiences through the doors.”
Visitors will be able to experience some of Van Gogh’s most celebrated works, including The Starry Night, Sunflowers and Café Terrace at Night, reimagined through digital displays designed to surround audiences with colour, light and movement.
The exhibition will run at Utilita Arena Newcastle from July 11 until August 9 and is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors from across the North East and beyond.
The addition of an extra opening date reflects growing anticipation for what is set to be one of the region's biggest cultural attractions of the summer.
Jim Mawdsley, principal advisor events and culture at Newcastle City Council, added: “It’s fantastic to see Beyond Van Gogh coming to Newcastle.
“This is exactly the kind of high-quality, large-scale cultural experience that helps attract visitors to the city and alongside the amazing range of cultural venues and experiences in the city gives people a compelling reason to spend time here.
“The combination of art, technology and storytelling has captivated millions of people around the world and we’re proud to be hosting it in Newcastle this summer.
“It promises to be a memorable experience for audiences of all ages.”
