Egis appoints transport director
Global engineering, consulting and mobility services firm Egis, headquartered in Guyancourt, France, has appointed Mike Birch as transportation director for the UK and Ireland as it continues to expand its transport offering across the region.
Mike brings more than 35 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors.
He joins from West Yorkshire Combined Authority, where he served as mass transit director and led the development of a £3 billion tram network programme.
His career has also included senior roles with engineering consultancies Jacobs and Ramboll, alongside board-level positions on major infrastructure projects including HS2, Crossrail and strategic highways schemes.
In his new role, Mike will lead the growth and delivery of Egis’ transport services across the UK and Ireland, with a focus on strengthening client relationships and bringing together expertise across the business.
He said: “Having led a major transport programme from the client side, I know what good consultancy support looks like and where it can fall short.
“Egis has the breadth of expertise and the global reach to genuinely add value to clients, and there's a real opportunity in the UK and Ireland to bring those capabilities together in a more connected way. I'm looking forward to getting started.”
Mike’s appointment supports Egis’ ambitions to increase its presence in the transport sector, building on recent successes across rail, highways, active travel and light rail projects.
Francois Basselot, managing director for Egis in the UK and Ireland, added: “This is a strategically important appointment for Egis as we continue to grow our transportation division in the UK and Ireland.
“Mike brings strong client‑side and consultancy experience, with first‑hand understanding of what it takes to lead complex transport programmes.
“His leadership will be invaluable as we bring our UK and Irish transportation capabilities closer together and support clients across an ever-changing market.”
