Port of Tyne appoints new chair
The Port of Tyne has appointed Julia Prescot CBE as chair, succeeding Lucy Armstrong following nearly a decade in the role.
Julia has served on the Port of Tyne board since 2019 and has been deputy chair since 2021.
She brings extensive experience in infrastructure, investment and regeneration, having worked on major transport and development projects across the UK.
Her appointment comes as the port continues to strengthen its role in international trade, regional economic growth and maritime innovation, with a focus on supporting the transition to a greener economy.
Julia said: “I am very excited and honoured to be appointed as Chair of the Port of Tyne, a leading UK Trust Port and a major contributor to the North East economy, having been associated with the Board since 2019.
“The port is well underway in its delivery of the long-term Tyne 2050 strategy, is undertaking major projects related to the green economy, technology-driven innovation, and regional economic regeneration.
“I am looking forward to working with the board, the executive team and all our stakeholders in the North East to realise our vision of development, sustainability and operational excellence.”
Matt Beeton, chief executive of the Port of Tyne, added: “We are delighted to welcome Julia as chair and I look forward to working together to deliver the port’s long-term vision.
“Julia brings extensive knowledge in investment, international business, finance, project development and management, having acted as an investor and adviser to governments and the private sector around the globe over many decades.”
The port also paid tribute to outgoing chair Lucy Armstrong, recognising her contribution during a period of significant transformation and growth for the organisation.
Matt added: “We also extend our sincere thanks to Lucy for her outstanding leadership and contribution over the past nine years.”
