R3 Midlands appoints new chair
Solicitor Monica Kapur has been appointed chair of R3 Midlands, becoming the first woman to lead the regional arm of the UK’s restructuring, turnaround and insolvency trade body.
Monica, a director at specialist insolvency law firm Isadore Goldman, succeeds Stephen Rome in the role and will represent restructuring, turnaround and insolvency professionals across the Midlands while supporting R3’s programme of events and member engagement activities.
Based in Birmingham, Monica brings 19 years of experience handling contentious matters and has developed a specialist service for insolvency practitioners dealing with construction-related insolvencies, leading to the launch of IG Construct.
As chair, she is keen to encourage greater diversity and inclusion across the profession, supporting wider efforts to broaden representation within the restructuring and insolvency sector.
Monica said: “It’s a real privilege to take on the role of R3 Midlands chair and to build on the work of Stephen and the committee.
“At a time when many businesses are continuing to face cash flow pressures caused by an increase in late payments, according to R3’s latest Quarterly Business Health report, the work we do remains vital.
“I’m particularly passionate about encouraging greater diversity within the profession.
“There has been progress in recent years, but there is more to do, and I hope to use this role to demonstrate that the profession is open, accessible and attractive to people from a wide range of backgrounds.
“I look forward to helping ensure that R3 continues to provide a strong voice for the profession and valuable support for its members.”
Caroline Sumner, chief executive of R3, added: “I’m delighted to welcome Monica as chair of our Midlands committee.
“She brings a wealth of experience and a clear commitment to supporting both members and the wider profession.
“Ensuring our profession reflects the communities it serves is vital if we are to remain relevant and effective.
“Our committee chairs also provide important role models for new professionals as they embark on a career in restructuring, turnaround and insolvency.”
