University opens new London campus

A Yorkshire university has opened a new London campus designed to meet growing demand from postgraduate students.

The University of Hull has welcomed its first students to a new campus in Stratford, East London, located close to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The facility offers postgraduate programmes in a well-connected part of the capital and builds on the success of the university’s existing centre in Bloomsbury.

Designed to enhance the student experience, the new campus provides upgraded facilities, specialist teaching spaces and access to a range of academic programmes.

Its location places students close to major cultural and creative institutions, including Sadler’s Wells, V&A East, BBC Music Studios and the emerging East Bank district.

Vice-chancellor Tom Lawson said: “The University of Hull is committed to an ambitious programme of growth and excellence.

“The opening of our new London Campus marks a momentous milestone in pursuit of those goals.

“With a focus on academic excellence and authentic learning experiences, we are bringing our Hull values to the nation’s capital, inspiring students from across the world to choose a University of Hull degree in London.

“We are proud to support a vibrant and diverse student community of more than 1000 learners in London, representing 14 different nationalities.

“This diversity not only enriches the academic experience but also creates a dynamic learning environment that fosters global perspectives, cultural exchange, and collaboration.”

Christopher Macallister, dean of the Hull London Campus, added: “Since our launch, two years ago, we have already seen huge success in our London-based postgraduate programmes at our Bloomsbury site, and we are excited to build on this with our new campus.

“To date, more than 650 students have completed their studies through our London provision, progressing into meaningful careers and making valuable contributions in their chosen fields. This summer, we look forward to celebrating a further 400 graduates, each equipped with the knowledge, skills, and ambition to succeed.

“In partnership with Cambridge Education Group, we are focused on providing exceptional learning opportunities for international students in one of the world’s most vibrant cities.

“We have seen outstanding demand for Hull’s programmes in London and this new site will offer improved study and social spaces.

“With enhanced facilities we are broadening our London offer further, including the development of in-demand courses in AI and data science, leadership, management and technology, responding directly to sector demand and supporting our drive for sustainable economic growth.”

The expansion marks the latest step in the University of Hull’s efforts to broaden access to its courses and strengthen its presence beyond its main campus in East Yorkshire.

The first cohort of students began their studies this week.

David Johnston, chief executive of Cambridge Education Group, added: “The growth and continued development of the London campus represents an exciting new chapter for Master’s students, opening the door to career-focused programmes in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic capital cities, and bringing the strengths and spirit of Hull to London.

“As the campus continues to flourish, it will enable more students to access a world-class education shaped by innovative teaching, dedicated support and strong connections to future opportunities.

“Through the breadth of our provision and the reach of our global recruitment network, we are proud to support the university’s ambition for London and to help students realise their potential on an international stage.”
