Contractors secure major housing association deals

Two construction sector firms have strengthened their workloads with multi-million-pound housing association deals.

Emanuel Whittaker and Connolly have been reappointed as Salix Homes’ principal contractors.

Officials say the agreements will see the operators each carry out £2.8 million annual works between 2026 and 2029 to upgrade about 3000 Salford-based properties.

The programme will include new kitchens, bathrooms, windows and doors, alongside electrical and heating improvements.

Glenn Martin, director of investment, development and sustainability at Salix Homes, which owns and manages more than 8000 properties across Salford, said: “We’re pleased to be working with Emanuel Whittaker and Connolly again.

“We’ve significantly increased investment in existing and new homes, and are strengthening our capacity to deliver high-quality housing and regeneration projects that make a lasting difference.”

Clive Newton, managing director of Oldham-based Emanuel Whittaker, said: “We have forged an outstanding relationship with the Salix Homes team and many of its customers, and our knowledge of their housing stock and neighbourhoods has been a key ingredient in that success.

“We will continue to invest a significant amount of time and financial resources into wider social value projects over the course of this arrangement.”

Liam Norbury, managing director of delivery at Wigan-based Connolly, added: “We put customer communication at the heart of our approach, together with a ‘can-do’ mindset when it comes to solving problems.

“We’re pleased this has been recognised in our reappointment.”
