Builder hits milestone on £29 million student hub
A building contractor has hit a £29 million project milestone.
GMI Construction Group has topped out the Moss Lane East student accommodation scheme.
Officials say the nine-storey Manchester-based venture will feature 261 bedrooms across flats and studios.
Delivered alongside student accommodation developer Alumno, they add the building – based close to Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester – will include study spaces, lounges, a cinema room and gym.
The structure, designed by Stallan Brand Architects, also features brickwork and metal cladding detailing, and incorporates a refurbished listed Georgian villa.
It is set to be completed ahead of the 2027 academic year.
Phillip Johnson, regional director for the North West at GMI Construction Group – which has offices in Stockton-on-Tees, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester – said: “Reaching this milestone is a significant achievement.
“It’s rewarding to see the project’s vision becoming reality.”
David Campbell, managing director at London-based Alumno, added: “We are proud to see the scheme taking shape.
“The project will provide much-needed, high-quality student accommodation for Manchester, including a proportion of rooms at affordable rents.
“This scheme will benefit students and the wider community for years to come.”
