DPP Planning strengthens Newcastle team

DPP Planning has appointed James Thomas as senior planner in its Newcastle office, strengthening the consultancy’s planning expertise across the North East.

James joins from Cundall and brings experience delivering planning projects across both the public and private sectors. 

He studied urban planning at Middle Tennessee State University before completing a master’s degree in the subject at Newcastle University, alongside an undergraduate degree in Human Geography.

His career has included roles as an assistant project manager at Newcastle Cathedral, working on heritage-led regeneration projects supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. 

Most recently, he played a key role in planning projects across the region, including the transformation of St Michael’s Church in Byker, a Grade II* listed building that was removed from Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register following its restoration.

James said: “I’m really excited to be joining DPP’s Newcastle office. 

“The team here are very talented and knowledgeable so having the chance to work alongside them is fantastic.

“DPP work on some big projects that have really made a positive difference across the North East. 

“I’m lucky enough to have been involved in a range of schemes across the region already, so working with DPP is going to give me the chance to support even more exciting projects that could help the area grow and prosper. 

“I can’t wait to get started.”
