Green Flag success for Gateshead parks
Four parks in Gateshead have once again been recognised among the country’s best green spaces after receiving prestigious Green Flag Awards.
Chase Park, Derwent Walk Country Park, Felling Park and Saltwell Park have all retained Green Flag status, recognising the high standards of management, maintenance and visitor experience they provide throughout the year.
Saltwell Park and Chase Park have also been awarded Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, in recognition of the way their historic features are managed and promoted.

The Green Flag Award is an international quality mark for parks and green spaces, celebrating sites that are welcoming, safe, accessible and environmentally sustainable.
Officials say the awards reflect the ongoing work of Gateshead Council, together with volunteers and community groups, to maintain and enhance the borough’s parks.
Councillor Michael Robinson, cabinet member for sport and culture at Gateshead Council, said: “We are incredibly delighted that four of our parks have once again achieved Green Flag Award status.
“These awards recognise the commitment of our teams to providing high-quality, welcoming and well-maintained green spaces that everyone can enjoy throughout the year.
“I would also like to thank the many volunteers, friends groups and community organisations who give their time, energy and passion to support these parks.
“Their contribution is hugely valued and plays a vital role in helping us maintain these award-winning spaces.”
