Greggs steams ahead with rail station venture

Greggs has created jobs in a transport sector expansion.

The high street baker has opened a store in Darlington’s revamped railway station.

Bosses say the venture has created 16 posts in the travel hub’s new eastern concourse.

The move follows a multi-million-pound overhaul of the railway town’s main station, which has added platforms, a multi-storey car park and an entrance hall.

Gillian Long, Greggs’ retail operations director, said: “Our new shop has brought jobs to the area, as well as providing customers with a modern and convenient new place to experience their Greggs favourites.”

Colette Casey, customer experience director at station operator LNER, added: “We're thrilled to welcome Greggs.

“The North East favourite is the first retail partner to open in our stunning new station, and we know customers and local people will love what is in store.”
