Final Pride in Place chair named

Manchester City Council has appointed the fifth and final community chair for its Pride in Place programme, completing the leadership team that will help shape up to £100 million of neighbourhood investment over the next decade.

Hassan Hassan has been appointed community chair for Moss Side West, one of five areas selected to receive up to £20 million of resident-led investment through the initiative.

A long-standing Moss Side resident, Hassan is managing director of Eid in the Park, chief operating officer of the Alfurqan Group of Charities and an independent community volunteer.

As community chair, Hassan will work with local residents to help guide investment decisions and support projects designed to improve the neighbourhood over the next ten years.

He said: “I applied because I believe lasting neighbourhood change is achieved when residents are genuinely involved in shaping the future of their communities. 

“Throughout my career I have worked alongside people from many different backgrounds, bringing together residents, community organisations and public services around shared goals. 

“Manchester is one of the world's most diverse cities, and I see this role as an opportunity to help ensure that everyone feels listened to, respected and able to contribute. 

“I hope to support an open, collaborative and transparent approach that builds trust and delivers positive outcomes for local people. 

"Success will not simply be measured by the projects we fund, but by the trust we build, the leadership we develop and the confidence we leave behind in the community.” 

Manchester was selected to benefit from the Pride in Place programme earlier this year, with funding allocated across five neighbourhoods.

The council said the appointment completes the community leadership structure that will help ensure residents play a central role in shaping investment priorities across the city.

“We were incredibly impressed by his application and felt that the skills and experience he will bring to this project will be invaluable. 

“With his appointment we now have all five community chairs in place and the real work will begin.

“This is an exciting time for Manchester and with colleagues like Hassan I have every confidence that Pride in Place will be a success.”
