Restaurant operator cooks up growth with takeover
A restaurant operator has growth on the menu after completing an acquisition.
My Delhi has bought Itihaas.
Bosses at the Newcastle-founded Indian eatery say the “milestone” deal for Birmingham’s Itihaas has added a “dining institution” to its portfolio.
They add the move – which complements existing restaurants in Sunderland, Leeds and Leicester – “reflects its continued ambition to grow by investing in established hospitality businesses with strong reputations and deep community roots”.
Under the terms of the deal, Itihaas – founded by Raj Rana in 2004 and known for North Indian cuisine – will continue to operate under its existing name.
Its team will also remain in place, with executive chef Gaurav Dayal overseeing the restaurant’s culinary direction.
Elahi Amin, My Delhi co-founder, said: “Everything we’ve built started in Newcastle, and we’ll always be proud of our North East roots.
“The support we've received has given us opportunities we could never have imagined.
“This deal isn’t simply about adding another restaurant; it’s about earning the trust to look after something that has meant so much to Birmingham for more than 20 years.”
Gaurav added: “Itihaas has earned its reputation through consistency, exceptional food and genuine hospitality.
“Our responsibility is to build on those strong foundations, while respecting everything that has made Itihaas so special.”
