Historic family retailer in market town expansion
A fourth-generation retailer has expanded its estate with a market town move.
Yorkshire Trading Company is set to open a store in Beverley.
Bosses say the East Yorkshire venture – in the town’s Flemingate shopping centre – will create about 25 full-time and part-time roles.
They add the 10,300sq ft store will open in the “next few weeks”.
Founded in Hull in 1939, the business operates more than 30 shops across towns and cities including York, Ripon, Skipton and Whitby.
Mark Johnson, Yorkshire Trading Company operations and compliance manager, said: “We’ve been looking at Beverley for many years.
“It’s a traditional market town, with a strong sense of community; we’ve just been waiting for the right unit, in the right place, to become available.
“Flemingate gives us exactly that.”
Yorkshire Trading Company’s arrival at Flemingate comes just days after indoor golf and entertainment operator FORE! announced its move to the retail hub.
Jason Platten, head of retail and leisure at Flemingate owner and operator Wykeland Group, said: “Yorkshire Trading Company is one of the region’s great high street success stories.
“We’re sure it will be a very popular addition to Flemingate.”
Hull-based commercial property and regeneration firm Wykeland Group was advised on the Yorkshire Trading Company deal by retail property consultants Rawstron Johnson and Pudney Shuttleworth.
