Housing provider secures Dales scheme approval

A housing provider has been backed to create an affordable property venture.

North Star Housing Group has secured planning permission for a Yorkshire Dales scheme.

Bosses say the four-home project – based in Langthwaite, Arkengarthdale – will include two two-bed and two three-bed social rent properties featuring air-source heat pumps and solar panels.

Construction is earmarked to begin later this year.

Thornaby-based North Star Housing Group is working with the Upper Dales Community Land Trust on the endeavour, with bosses saying homes will be allocated through a local lettings policy.

They add the development will “support the long-term sustainability of local communities by enabling people to remain in areas where they’ve established their lives.”

Emma Speight, North Star Housing Group executive director of assets and growth, said: ‘We are thrilled to be working with the Upper Dales Community Land Trust to provide more rural affordable homes in this beautiful location.

“We’re really looking forward to progressing this project, getting on site and welcoming tenants.”

She added an application will be made to Homes England for grant support, alongside North Star Housing Group and North Yorkshire Council investment, via the Upper Dales Community Land Trust.

Stephen Stubbs, Upper Dales Community Land Trust chair, added: “We are delighted planning permission has been granted by the Yorkshire Dales National Park, allowing this much-needed affordable housing project to move forward.”
