Dance City appoints artist development manager

Newcastle-based dance development organisation Dance City has appointed Andy Gardiner as senior artist support and development manager.

Andy brings extensive experience across dance, theatre, opera, film and large-scale public events, having worked as a performer, dramaturg, rehearsal director, mentor and artistic director.

His career includes collaborations with leading dance companies, theatre makers and community organisations, as well as contributions to major events including the Commonwealth Games and Rugby League World Cup opening ceremonies.

In his new role, Andy will support the development of independent dance artists across the North East, working with Dance City and partner organisations to strengthen opportunities for creative talent in the region.

Andy said: “There’s a great depth of knowledge, experience and diverse practice among the Dance City community and it feels like a privilege to step into this role and work alongside people who care so deeply about dance in the North East.

“I’m looking forward to building relationships and working alongside artists and partners to help develop new opportunities for all dance artists living and working in the North East. 

“I’m passionate about stepping into a role where I can truly support, champion and care for artists and ensure they feel connected, valued and able to thrive.”

Andy’s appointment reflects Dance City’s continued investment in supporting independent dance artists, strengthening the organisation's role in developing talent and growing the North East's dance sector.
