Transave strengthens board with fintech expert

Sheffield-based Transave Credit Union has appointed fintech and consumer finance executive Jake Ranson as a non-executive director.

Jake brings extensive board and executive experience from leading financial technology businesses, including Experian, ClearScore and Paylink, where he most recently served as chief executive before its acquisition by Experian in 2024.

Throughout his career, he has focused on developing products and services that improve financial outcomes for consumers.

In his new role, Jake will support Transave’s board as the member-owned financial cooperative continues to grow and advance its digital transformation.

Jake said: “Millions of hardworking people would benefit from having access to affordable savings and borrowing options that genuinely work in their interests.

“Credit unions have an increasingly important role to play in providing a credible alternative to mainstream banks and for-profit lenders.

“The sector has a clear ambition to reach millions more people over the coming decade, and I believe technology, innovation and outstanding customer experience will be central to achieving that.

“Transave has spent more than 30 years helping its members build financial resilience by putting people before profit, and I'm excited to join the board at such an important moment in its growth.”

Jake’s appointment reflects Transave Credit Union’s continued investment in its governance and digital capabilities, strengthening the organisation as it supports growing demand for affordable financial services and prepares for the next phase of growth across the credit union sector.

Ian Sibbald, chief executive of Transave Credit Union, added: “Jake brings an exceptional combination of fintech, payments and consumer finance experience at a time when credit unions have a significant opportunity to reshape the financial landscape.

“His expertise in digital products, customer strategy and financial inclusion will be invaluable as we continue to modernise our services and expand our reach.

“The credit union movement has set itself ambitious growth targets for the next decade, and attracting experienced leaders from mainstream financial services and fintech reflects the increasing importance of our sector.

“Consumers increasingly expect financial providers to combine digital convenience with genuine value and trust, and Jake’s appointment strengthens our ability to deliver exactly that.”
