Charitable trust unveils new identity

A long-standing North East charitable trust has unveiled a new identity as it looks to build a lasting legacy for communities across the region.

Previously known as the LGA Foundation, the organisation has been renamed The Reece Family Trust, reflecting the growing family’s continued commitment to philanthropy.

Founded by Sue Reece and John Reece MBE, the trust provides flexible grants and long-term support to grassroots charities and community organisations across Tyneside and South Northumberland.

Its original name was based on the initials of the couple’s three children – Lauren, Greg and Ali – with the rebrand recognising the arrival of a new generation of grandchildren.

Sue and John say the change will not affect existing grants, funding priorities or charitable objectives.

John said: “When Sue and I established the Trust, it came from a simple belief that if you’ve been fortunate enough to succeed, you have a responsibility to give something back.

“Changing our name doesn’t change who we are or why we exist, it just reinforces the fact that this has always been our family endeavour and signals our commitment to supporting communities for generations to come.”

Since its creation, the Trust has backed organisations tackling food poverty, improving mental health, supporting carers and creating opportunities for children and young people.

It has also invested in green spaces and community projects, alongside supporting international humanitarian initiatives in Ukraine and Hong Kong.

Current projects include funding an expansion at Footsteps Nursery in Benwell, creating a new woodland in Prudhoeand investing in community green spaces.

Support also continues for organisations working across mental health, education, youth development and sport.

Sue added: “We’ve been privileged to meet so many remarkable charities and community organisations over the years.

“Their passion, resilience and commitment inspire us every day.

“As The Reece Family Trust, we’re excited to build on everything we’ve achieved together and continue investing in projects that improve lives across the North East.”

Applications remain open through The Reece Family Trust’s rolling grants programme. See here for more information.
