Housing association eyes glory at industry awards

A housing association is eyeing honours success.

Unity Homes and Enterprise has been shortlisted for two accolades at the Housing Executive Awards.

The Leeds-based organisation is in the running for the housing association of the year and best social value project awards.

Bosses say the former honour will be presented to an organisation “that has supplied safe, affordable homes to those that need them most, and upheld a high standard of quality all year round”.

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 6 at Bolton Wanderers Football Club’s ground.

Unity was formed in 1987 with the aim of building a community housing association to address the needs of black and minority ethnic communities in Leeds.

It now manages almost 1400 properties for tenants from all communities and ethnic backgrounds, with its portfolio including developments in Huddersfield and Cleckheaton.

Cedric Boston, chief executive, said: “We define our success by how well our tenants prosper, both economically and socially.

“We aim to tackle tenants’ housing needs and their economic and social challenges.

“As a relatively small housing association, being shortlisted for these awards underlines we are punching well above our weight locally, regionally and nationally.”
