Green light for 50-plus affordable home scheme

Plans have been approved for a 50-plus affordable home venture.

Kirklees Council and Thirteen Group are set to create a Main Avenue estate, in Cowlersley, near Huddersfield.

Officials say the “milestone” 57-property development will stand on council-owned land and help “create a sustainable new community”.

Councillor Phillip James, Kirklees Council’s cabinet member for housing and physical communities, said: “The need for affordable housing across Kirklees has never been greater, with many individuals and families finding it increasingly difficult to access a home that meets their needs and remains within their budget.

“That’s why developments like Main Avenue are so important.

“Securing planning permission brings us a step closer to delivering high-quality, genuinely affordable homes that will help meet local demand and create a thriving community for years to come.”

Marie Kiddell, Thirteen Group development and partnerships director, added: “We’re delighted to be moving into the next phase of this exciting project.

“Working in partnership with Kirklees Council and Strata Homes, we’ll help address local housing needs and create opportunities for people and families to put down roots, build brighter futures and become part of a strong community.”
