Cleveland Group takes ‘step forward’ with depot

A shipping container and modular buildings specialist is strengthening its national footprint with a new Yorkshire depot as it continues a period of rapid expansion.

Stockton-on-Tees-based Cleveland Group has opened a site in Doncaster, adding to its Cleveland-operated locations in Middlesbrough, Newport, Ashby de la Zouch and Cambuslang.

The LDC-backed group, which comprises Cleveland Containers, Cleveland Modular and Cleveland Hire, provides shipping containers, modular buildings, site accommodation and bespoke conversions nationwide.

Bosses say Doncaster was selected following analysis of its customer base and delivery activity, with the location providing additional capacity to serve South Yorkshire and the wider region.

The depot will have a particular focus on site accommodation and modular buildings for customers including construction companies, housebuilders, schools, hospitals and emergency services.

Andrew Thompson, chief executive at Cleveland Group, said: “Doncaster was a natural choice for Cleveland.

“We’ve seen significant demand from customers across the region, so having our own depot here strengthens our national network and puts us closer to the customers we serve.

“It’s another step forward for the business and an investment in delivering an even better customer experience.”

Stock is already available on site, allowing Cleveland to respond more quickly to orders while reducing reliance on third-party depots.

Additional space will also enable Cleveland Modular to prepare larger projects involving hundreds of bays before delivery to customers.

Six people have been recruited locally, with further jobs expected as the operation grows.

Newly appointed depot manager Darren Dunnill will lead the site and oversee its continued development.

Darren added: “I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of taking a completely blank site and working out how we can make it the best depot it can be.

“The goal for me is to create an operation that truly delivers for our customers, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency and service.”

The opening follows the launch of Cleveland’s five-acre Newport depot in 2025 and continues significant expansion since LDC’s initial investment in 2022.

During that period, Cleveland Group has more than doubled its workforce from 45 to 118 employees while investing in its fleet, infrastructure and training.

Laura Moore, group operations director at Cleveland Group, added: “Investment in our infrastructure goes hand in hand with investment in our people.

“As we open new depots and expand the business, we’re creating opportunities for people to come into Cleveland, develop their skills and progress through the business.

“We want to give people with the right attitude and commitment the opportunity to build a long-term career with us.”
