RE:GEN leads charge on Warm Homes delivery
A North East social housing regeneration specialist has delivered almost three-quarters of the region’s latest Government-backed Warm Homes improvements.
RE:GEN North East upgraded 1768 properties during the 2025/26 financial year through the Government’s Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund, representing around 74 per cent of the 2377 North East homes reported as receiving improvements.
Working alongside housing providers and local authorities including believe housing, Gentoo, Karbon Homes and Darlington Borough Council, its teams have delivered measures designed to create warmer, more energy-efficient homes and reduce heating costs for residents.
Bosses say the figures demonstrate the role housing investment can play in improving lives across the region as efforts to tackle cold homes and increase energy efficiency accelerate.
Dave Brown, managing director of RE:GEN North East, said: “The scale of delivery across the North East is something we should all be incredibly proud of, but the real significance of these figures is the impact behind them.
“Over 1760 homes have been improved, helping residents to live in warmer, more energy-efficient homes.”
The results come as North East mayor Kim McGuinness sets out ambitions to make homes warmer, greener and more affordable to heat through her recently announced Warm Homes Plan.
While RE:GEN’s latest figures relate to the separate Government Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund, the company says its delivery record provides evidence of the capacity already available within the region to support further investment.
Its North East performance also forms part of a wider achievement for RE:GEN Group, which delivered measures to 3253 properties through the latest programme.
That represents 27 per cent of all reported lodgements across the UK.
The figures follow a period of rapid expansion for RE:GEN Group, which was established in Sunderland in 2021 and has been named the North East’s fastest-growing company for three consecutive years.
Its North East operation now employs more than 300 people, including apprentices and trainees, as the business combines its expansion with investment in developing local skills.
The company’s growth is about more than increasing turnover and the number of projects it delivers, with a focus on creating skilled employment and developing the next generation of workers.
Its wider purpose centres on improving lives through safe and sustainable social housing regeneration, with retrofit and energy-efficiency projects providing an opportunity to deliver benefits directly to communities.
Improving the energy performance of social housing can help residents reduce energy consumption while creating warmer and more comfortable properties, alongside supporting wider efforts to cut carbon emissions from the region’s housing stock.
With further investment in energy efficiency and affordable warmth expected across the North East, RE:GEN is continuing to expand its regional workforce.
The company says it will also continue working alongside housing providers and local authorities to increase the number of residents benefiting from improvements to their homes.
Dave added: “As the North East continues to focus on tackling cold homes, reducing energy costs and improving housing quality, programmes like this have a vital role to play.
“For RE:GEN, it demonstrates the contribution a growing regional business can make when it combines investment, expertise and strong partnerships with a genuine purpose to improve lives.”
