£35 million scheme to 'breathe new life' into site
A former brownfield site is set for a £35 million transformation as part of plans to deliver almost 200 new homes in North Halifax.
Housebuilder Keepmoat has launched the 192-home development in Illingworth alongside Calderdale Council and Homes England.
The scheme includes £1.1 million of contributions towards schools, public transport and environmental improvements.
A further £5.3 million grant from Homes England’s Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land Grant helped make the development viable.
Of the 192 properties, 44 will be delivered through a social housing provider for affordable rent and shared ownership.
Keepmoat will also create new public open space, alongside biodiversity improvements and tree planting.
Guy Evans, land and partnerships director at Keepmoat Yorkshire West, said: “It was fantastic to meet with senior leaders and mark an important milestone for this transformative development.
“We are pleased to be working with Calderdale Council and Homes England to breathe new life into this brownfield site.
“At Keepmoat we’re dedicated to working with our partners to deliver high-quality, sustainable homes, reflective of the needs of the local area.
“The development on Furness Avenue and Turner Avenue South will create thriving communities in the heart of Calderdale.”
The development forms part of Calderdale Council’s North Halifax Transformation Programme, which aims to bring underused brownfield land back into use while increasing housing options for local residents.
Councillor Keith Ingle, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration, added: “This significant development supports our priority to ensure that local people can access safe, warm housing, and the inclusion of affordable options is in line with our pledge.
“I’m delighted to see work progressing on the site, with people now able to view the type of homes being built and express their interest.
“It’s particularly good to see this brownfield land being redeveloped, putting the site back into use and preserving our precious greenbelt.
“We’ll continue to support schemes which provide much-needed homes to support local families.”
