Property firm helps Greggs roll out growth

A commercial property consultancy has helped national high street baker Greggs expand its East Midlands footprint with two new stores creating 30 jobs.

Innes England has secured locations in Lincoln and Sherwood, Nottingham, continuing its work supporting the food retailer’s regional growth.

A former motorbike showroom on Outer Circle Road in Lincoln has been transformed into a 2985sq ft store, creating 15 jobs.

In Sherwood, a recently closed post office on Mansfield Road has been given a new lease of life as a 2500sq ft Greggs, generating a further 15 roles.

Both stores reflect the retailer’s move towards larger, café-style locations with increased seating and an expanded hot food offering.

The openings follow four other deals secured by Innes England for Greggs in recent months, including a new store at Chilwell Retail Park.

Sam Hall, associate director and retail and roadside specialist at Innes England, said: “While customers will always be wanting to buy food on the move, these larger sites can also respond to changing consumer habits. 

“They provide more space for café-style seating, giving customers the option to pause, relax and enjoy a coffee or something to eat as part of their wider shopping trip.

“These two latest sites were interesting and diverse developments, with one being a typical retail unit - demonstrating that the high street is still thriving. 

“The other was an industrial unit that previously housed a showroom, so it’s good to see it being brought back to use.

“We are continuing to work with Greggs as we seek further stores on retail parks and in high streets and transport hubs.”

Gillian Long, retail operations director for Newcastle-headquartered Greggs, added: “Our new shops in Lincoln and Sherwood have brought 15 new jobs each, resulting in a collective 30 new jobs for the area, as well as providing customers with a modern, convenient new place to experience their Greggs favourites.”
