Builder makes splash with 69-home baths project

A builder is primed to start a £15.1 million affordable home scheme.

Esh Construction is transforming an ex-Castleford swimming baths site into a 69-affordable home estate.

Set to be delivered alongside Vico Homes, bosses say the venture will feature 52 social rent homes and 17 shared ownership units across two, three and four-bed properties.

They add demolition of the baths building – which has stood vacant for nearly a decade – will start later this month, with the development slated for completion by summer 2028.

Simon Woodward, operations director at Esh Construction, which is headquartered in Bowburn, County Durham, said: “We are pleased to be working with Vico Homes to bring forward this important development.

“The scheme will help meet local housing demand and give more people the opportunity to build a future in the area.”

James Kilroy, head of new business and delivery at Castleford-based Vico Homes, added: “We’re proud to be bringing these much-needed affordable homes to Castleford, giving more local people the opportunity to put down roots in a safe and high-quality home.

“This development is an important step towards our ambition to provide 10,000 more homes over the next ten years.”

The scheme has been supported by West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Brownfield Housing Fund and additional West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Wakefield Council and Homes England grant funding.
