Huddersfield Food Hall plans move forward
Plans for a new food hall in Huddersfield are gathering pace as specialist support is brought in to prepare the venue for its 2027 opening.
Food and hospitality specialist JT & Crew has joined Kirklees Council’s Our Cultural Heart team to help turn Huddersfield’s newly built Food Hall into a fully operational venue.
The Food Hall forms part of the first phase of the Our Cultural Heart regeneration scheme, alongside the new Library Hub and Queensgate Square.
With construction of the space complete, JT & Crew will lead preparations ranging from design and fit-out to recruitment, food safety, compliance and operational planning.
A key focus will be attracting a varied mix of independent food and drink businesses from across the region, with plans to accommodate established operators alongside emerging traders.
The team will also support businesses moving into the Food Hall, providing help with areas including menu development and training as the venue prepares to welcome its first customers.
Jeremy Taylor, Director at JT & CREW LTD, added: “We at JT & CREW are absolutely delighted to be supporting Kirklees Council on such a pivotal element of the Our Cultural Heart regeneration project.
“This landmark initiative for Huddersfield represents a significant investment in the town’s cultural and economic future, and we are proud to contribute our experience, energy, and commitment to ensuring the food hall becomes a vibrant, community‑anchored success.
“It is truly a privilege to help shape a project that will bring new life, opportunity, and pride to the town centre.”
JT & Crew’s involvement will continue for two years after opening, working alongside the Food Hall’s management team to develop the skills, knowledge and systems needed to operate and grow the venue over the longer term.
Meanwhile, the new Library Hub is set to become the first part of Our Cultural Heart to open, welcoming visitors from September 21.
Queensgate Square will provide a new public space at the centre of the development.
Councillor John Hardie, cabinet member for regeneration, highways and transport at Kirklees Council, added: “The Food Hall represents a significant investment in Huddersfield town centre and our focus now is on making sure we get the next stage right.
“That means creating an offer that works for Huddersfield, attracting the right mix of traders and putting the Food Hall on a strong and sustainable footing for the future.
“There is a lot of work involved in getting a venue like this ready to open and run successfully.
“Bringing JT & Crew’s specialist experience into the project will help us make informed decisions as we move through that process, from finding and supporting traders to getting the operational details right.
“We’ll be sharing more over the coming months and, importantly, we’ll soon be opening up opportunities for food and drink businesses interested in being part of the Food Hall.”
Further details about the Food Hall, including its new identity and information about how prospective food and drink traders can express an interest in joining the venue, are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
