Caledonian Climate appoints natural capital director

Peatland restoration consultancy Caledonian Climate has appointed Charli Adamson as natural capital director as it looks to capitalise on growing investment in nature-based assets.

Charli joins from climate technology business Ecologi, where she led strategic initiatives, developed commercial propositions and built partnerships focused on delivering climate outcomes for businesses.

She previously co-founded the Million Tree Pledge, an initiative designed to mobilise investment from small and medium-sized businesses to support large-scale reforestation.

In her new role, Charli will lead the development and delivery of natural capital strategies across Caledonian Climate’s peatland portfolio.

She will focus on positioning data-led peatland restoration as an investable natural capital asset, while developing tailored propositions for businesses and individuals looking to invest in projects with environmental and wider co-benefits.

Charli said: “With growing recognition of the climate, nature, social and economic benefits of nature-based solutions, there has never been a more important time to invest in natural capital. 

“However, investors need greater confidence in the measurable outcomes of nature restoration and the benefits this can deliver for their business.”

“I look forward to working with the Caledonian Climate team to build investor confidence in the positive financial returns, community impact, biodiversity gains and meaningful contributions to net-zero that credible peatland restoration projects can offer, and accelerating nature recovery across Scotland and beyond.

“Having spent the last five years navigating rapidly changing climate standards and bringing new climate products to market, I’m eager to bring my expertise to the project-side of things, see impact on the ground and build lasting partnerships that connect businesses with high-quality nature projects.”

Charli’s appointment comes as Caledonian Climate responds to increasing investor interest in natural capital and growing demand for evidence-based projects capable of delivering measurable environmental outcomes.

The consultancy specialises in peatland restoration, developing projects designed to restore degraded landscapes while supporting carbon reduction, biodiversity and wider environmental objectives.

Freddie Ingleby, chief executive of Caledonian Climate, added: “This is an exciting new senior role for Caledonian Climate, strengthening our capability to scale high-integrity, high-impact peatland restoration projects across the UK.

“Damaged peatlands account for around 14 per cent of Scotland's greenhouse gas emissions, yet they remain one of the least understood and most underused tools we have. 

“Closing the gap between what peatlands can deliver and what the market currently supports is exactly what this role is here to do.

“Attracting corporate engagement and finance to peatland projects is crucial if we are to meet national nature restoration and climate targets, and Caledonian Climate is determined to lead that shift.

“Charli brings a huge amount of experience to the team. 

“She will be instrumental in building confidence in the peatland market and clarity on the long-term value of nature recovery, putting credible projects in front of buyers and generating the financial flows these landscapes need to be resilient and successful over the long term.
