Heathrow suffers peak month passenger fall

Heathrow Airport suffered an August passenger dip amid “big challenges” across the sector.

The west London hub saw 7.87 million travellers pass through its four terminals last month.

The figure was down 2.1 per cent year-on-year, despite a record busy day on August 2 with nearly 272,000 passengers.

However, bosses say the base remained Europe’s most “punctual” airport.

Heathrow’s traffic data shows a 1.7 per cent fall in UK passengers – the biggest across all its markets – with a 0.3 per cent drop for those from the European Union.

Passengers from the Middle East plunged by a fifth as the Iran war disrupts travel around the region.
