STEM partnership launches Pupil Passport

Thousands of North East pupils are being given a new way to build and showcase their STEM experience through a regional education initiative.

RTC North and the North East STEM Foundation (NESF) have launched the Pupil Passport, the first initiative from a new strategic collaboration aimed at encouraging more young people into science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.

Around 2000 pupils from 20 schools will take part this year following a successful pilot, with plans to expand the programme to more schools.

Pupils receive stamps in their passport when they participate in activities including workshops, competitions, employer encounters, STEM Ambassador sessions, industry visits and careers events.

The passport creates a record of their experiences throughout their education and supports participation in nationally recognised CREST Awards.

Organisers say this can provide evidence of pupils’ skills, curiosity and commitment when applying for university, apprenticeships and employment.

The partnership combines NESF’s employer-led outreach expertise with RTC North’s experience coordinating regional programmes and connecting schools with industry through initiatives including STEM Hub, STEMFest and CREST Awards.

By working together on selected projects, the organisations aim to strengthen employer engagement and create clearer links between classroom experiences and future careers.

“Working alongside RTC North on targeted projects allows us to broaden our reach, strengthen our links with industry and create even more opportunities for young people.”

“By working together, we can amplify the impact of STEM activity across the region, connecting education, industry and opportunity, while respecting the independence and unique strengths of both organisations.”

The Pupil Passport is the first of several joint initiatives planned by RTC North and NESF, with the partnership aiming to give more young people access to STEM opportunities while helping employers develop the skilled workforce needed across the North East.
